I’m pretty sure that at any point of our working lives, we have these moments where we ponder.
Do I want a high paying job and be miserable…
or
earn less but love what I’m doing?
You might ask, why do I have to choose? Why can’t I have both?
Before you answer the question, we would like you to meet Edwin Teo.
Edwin like many young adults out there has the same goal- to earn a lot of money. He was an engineer in the oil and gas industry on an international assignment for almost 9 years.
The downside? Every trip overseas requires him to be away from his family for 4 to 5 weeks straight.
Edwin wasn’t happy.
“I was getting pretty tired of traveling in my previous job. I was enjoying it before this and since I got transferred to Mexico, the traveling is slowly killing me on the inside. Oil and gas, in the end, is not a very stable industry either.

For every 4 or 5 weeks of work trip, Edwin told us that he only got 3 weeks back home to be with his family and friends.
That’s equivalent to less than 6 months in a year.
Edwin also realized one horrible truth. The more time he spent away on his full-time job, the less time he spent with his growing son. He realised he was never there for him, to witness his little milestones.
Children grow so fast! 3 weeks would mean missing out on his first words or even first walk!
“Sometimes, money is not everything. I feel like I really want to spend time with my family. I didn’t get to do so with my previous job. I’m always gone. That’s not the life I want to live long term,” Edwin told us in an interview.
COVID-19 happened. Sadly, Edwin was affected.
So when he got retrenched due to Covid-19, Edwin described it as a blessing in disguise for him.
Now he can focus all his energy on what really matters- his family.
“Initially when I got released, for a couple of weeks, I was trying to figure out what I’m going to do now. I always have this interest in digital marketing, I feel that the industry is growing. I didn’t know how to get into it. It’s just thoughts in my mind.”

Question is, what’s the next step? Will he go back to the same industry? Will he start something new?
What can he do to earn decent money while being able to spend time with his family?
How Edwin made the switch…
We know making the switch from something you’ve known all your life can’t be easy. Now that he knows what he wants in a job, it is time to take action.
He always had an interest in digital marketing, it was an idea he’s been fiddling with but have yet to wrap his fingers around them.
There’s only so much information you can find on the web. To be honest, most “experts” online only give you textbooks answers which is exactly what we don’t want in this ever-changing industry.
What’s new today will not be tomorrow! Heck, what’s new now might not be an hour later! The web is this double-edged sword, you can get information within your fingertips but are you sure what you’re getting is good quality content?
Edwin tried doing his own research online, to find out what it is all about and how he can get into it to no avail. He had no idea where to start.
Why? He had his doubts…
- What are the services he can sell? What is his selling point? There was no niche.
- He was not comfortable putting himself out there on social media at all. The last he updated his Facebook was 3 years back! *gasps*.
- Changing the mindset from an employee to an employer. Years of working in corporate settings have trained him to think that he had to do everything alone.
Edwin had to come up with a strategy.
Is it going to be Dropshipping? Ecommerce? Web design?
That’s when Edwin came across one of Reeve’s videos on Facebook.
“When I saw Reeve’s advertisements on Facebook. I thought that this is something I would like to pursue, it’s something I want to get into. I knew I had to find out more.
It feels like a great opportunity as I can work from home and earn decent money. I don’t have to risk my life traveling and going offshore,” Edwin said.
So he decided to do something different.
Edwin’s story started on 27th May 2020 when he joined the FunnelBOSS Live program.

Crazy? Not so fast.
“I’m still starting up and I think the return is fantastic,” Edwin explained.
My business is still small but eventually, I want to scale up. I hope to get more clients just like how Jackson and Reeve are doing. That’s my ambition. If and when I do get to that stage, I can easily beat my previous pay!”
“Given a choice, I wouldn’t go back to my previous job. That was not the life I envisioned. I would definitely choose the life I had now, especially during this pandemic, going out and traveling is not what I want to do.”
